Care Escalation in the Management of Musculoskeletal Disorders
Description
Principal Investigator: Brian Anderson D.C., M.P.H., M.S., Ph.D.
Description: Spinal pain disorders, such as back and neck pain, have been among the leading cause of global disability for more than two decades, ranking higher than stroke and most forms of cancer. Health-care costs associated with these conditions is estimated to be over $100 billion (US) per year, which is largely driven by the routine use of imaging studies, opioid medications, injection procedures and surgery. The utilization of these guideline-discordant, low-value procedures is referred to as care escalation.
