Playing sports, working out and gardening are a few of the things that bring joy to Associate Professor Ashley Hook, D.C., DACBR. Among other things, teaching at Palmer West for the last two and a half years has also brought her an abundant amount of happiness. “I came to Palmer West because when I first visited the campus it felt like home. With its excellent reputation and gorgeous California weather, Palmer West was undoubtedly the right choice. The faculty, staff and students are amazingly friendly and welcoming.”
Dr. Hook says, “I’m passionate about radiology, teaching and learning, so I love that I get to merge those passions here at Palmer West. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and having a career in academia allows me to continually develop professionally.”
What motivates Dr. Hook to help students succeed is “watching students take the clinical and diagnostic skills I’ve taught them and apply it to practice. I love watching them evolve from being students in the classroom to interns in the clinic, to finally doctors out in practice. Seeing these transformations is very rewarding. The students at Palmer West have a bright future of making a difference at every level of society. I’m very proud of them and it’s a privilege to be a part of their learning process.”
As the quarter is beginning to wind down, Dr. Hook encourages students to “maintain a continuous desire to expand, deepen, and transmit your knowledge as healers. As you continue to grow and learn as doctors, you’ll confront situations that force you to think of the world in terms that aren’t simply black or white, right or wrong. You thus must find beauty in the gray area, and revel in the nuances and complexities that make chiropractic an art. It’s never simple, but simple is not what you signed up for.”
