Cameron Dowie: From the Rugby Fields of South Africa to Palmer College of Chiropractic

Student Cameron DowieOriginally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Palmer Main Campus student Cameron Dowie has crossed continents to pursue his academic and athletic ambitions. Now, his sights are set on transforming lives through chiropractic care.

Cameron’s venture to the United States to attend Arkansas State University marked a significant turn in his life’s path. While he originally planned to pursue a career in physical therapy, his perspective shifted after a Palmer alumnus gave a speech on campus, introducing him to the scope and impact of chiropractic care.

“Palmer was the school that founded the chiropractic profession, and attending such an institution made me feel proud,” Cameron shares. Moreover, the modern facilities and rugby program were decisive factors in his choice. “Rugby has been such a huge part of my life, and I was not willing to give it up just yet,” he adds.

For Cameron, rugby is more than just a sport; it’s a pivotal element of his life that has opened doors to opportunities, including his current role on the men’s rugby team at Palmer College. “Rugby has given me great opportunities, not only to move to America and play the sport I love but also to travel this great country while studying abroad,” he explains.

“During my time at Palmer, I’ve developed so much experience and knowledge. Diversifying my techniques and learning multiple approaches to assess patients is going to be a huge factor when I am out in the field one day. Not only is the education at Palmer going to help me become a successful chiropractor, but I feel like being a part of the rugby team and Pi Kappa Chi has helped me a lot.

“Through these organizations, I’ve met multiple alumni who are willing to share their knowledge, and I’ve had the opportunity to hear stories of their experiences in the field. Hearing firsthand experience from very successful chiropractors and learning how they became successful has been extremely motivating,” he shares.

In his free time, Cameron enjoys staying active, whether working out, hiking, or tinkering with cars. Looking ahead, Cameron is eager to plant roots in the United States and establish his own chiropractic clinic.
