Imagine finding the love of your life while in chiropractic school. That’s what happened to recent graduates Chloë Drost, D.C., (West, ’21) and Will Murillo, D.C., (West, ’21).
Chloë and Will met in July of 2018 during orientation and by the end of second quarter, they were a couple. Three years later, the couple is newly engaged and looking forward to the impact they will make in the chiropractic profession, together.
They both wanted to become chiropractors for similar reasons, to help people.
“Becoming a chiropractor allows me the chance to help patients in a holistic way, by being able to treat most common musculoskeletal issues with passive and active care. Movement is one of the biggest components we can do to help prevent injuries. I love how we can educate patients on this and help them live a healthier, pain-free lifestyle,” says Will.
For Chloë, she wanted to help people in a way that shows them they have control over their body and health.
“Helping provide hands-on and preventative care before a patient turns to a pill or surgery is the best career I could ever imagine having.”
When it came time to decide which chiropractic school was the best fit for them, they both recollect that their prior mentors inspired them to attend Palmer West.
“My mentor went to Palmer and spoke highly of our evidence-based curriculum, community, and reputation,” says Chloë.
Will’s mentor attended Palmer and said it was one of the best programs, however, Will had an additional reason behind his choice to attend Palmer.
“I love how Palmer is active with their alumni, giving students a chance to network with other doctors and open doors for the next generation of chiropractors.”
As these two prepare for life after graduation they’re looking forward to the future of chiropractic.
“Being integrated into a new model of health care, we’re excited to see health care turn towards a preventative and functional model and are hopeful that chiropractors will lead the front lines.”
After hours of hard work and completing the Doctor of Chiropractic program, the advice the couple gives to current students is simply put, straightforward.
“What you put into this program is what you get out of it. Love what you do, especially when you get to outpatient—because the true passion you put in is noticed and appreciated by patients who need you,” said Chloë
“As cliche as it sounds, put in the work now, and it will pay off. Never doubt yourself and remember to always have faith in yourself. Passion, hard work, and dedication will be seen, just be patient. Lastly, never say no to an opportunity and never be afraid to ask questions,” said Will.
Chloë and Will are ecstatic to head back to Chicago (where they completed their preceptorships) to start a promising future together.
Chloë plans to work in the North Shore of Chicago and grow a client base, with hopes of opening her own clinic in the not-too-distant future and Will is ready to establish himself in the area and be the best doctor he can be.
“I am excited for all the opportunities that come with being a chiropractor but also excited for this new chapter in Chicago. I was born and raised in northern California, and this is the first time I will be leaving the state. Chicago is a great city and I look forward to all the opportunities that come my way. I am also excited to help motivate upcoming minorities in chiropractic and hope that my story inspires others,” Will explains.
“Without Palmer, we would have never met, let alone gotten engaged! We will be forever grateful for the education and opportunities that attending Palmer has provided us, but above all, we are grateful to have met and grown together here.”
Congratulations Chloë and Will, we are very Palmer proud of you both and can’t wait to hear of your future successes.
