This September will mark the sixth year that faculty member Douglas Gillard, D.C. (West, ’86) has been teaching at Palmer West. Dr. Gillard became a chiropractor because he loves “helping people and love the challenge of trying to get rid of chronic pain.”
After graduating from chiropractic school in 1986 Dr. Gillard opened up a large and very successful clinic in San Jose, California, where he practiced for more than 20 years.
In 2014, Dr. Gillard started off at Palmer West as an anatomy instructor in the cadaver labs and his position grew from there. Now, he’s the lead instructor for spinal anatomy, embryology, dermatology, cardiovascular and pulmonary pathology, and gastrointestinal and urogenital pathology.
The success of his former students is what motivates him to help his current students.
“I love it when I get emails from students who have graduated and tell me that because of my teachings they diagnosed deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism’s, left ventricular hypertrophy etc., and caught these potentially life-threatening conditions. Make sure you take your clinical pathology (the stuff I teach) very seriously! You can definitely save someone’s life by applying the knowledge that you learn from my classes.”
In his free time, Dr. Gillard loves to sing the blues and play his guitar. He also enjoys writing music and photography.
