Most people who knew 12th quarter Palmer West student Jade Viegas growing up would have thought she would pursue a career as an engineer or an accountant because she excelled in mathematics. Yet as an athlete, her time playing hockey and in dance showed her that she wants a career where she can be active.
She attended the University of Calgary where she earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree and continued her studies at Mount Royal University, obtaining an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy. Upon graduating from Mount Royal University, she decided to stay involved with hockey allowing her to work with athletes every day, but she still felt that something was missing.
“I enjoyed my job, however, I felt that I had some limitations and I knew that chiropractic would allow me to further my education foundation and expand my knowledge and tool base that I can use to help people.”
Jade had been receiving chiropractic care since she was 13 years old and her chiropractor/mentor just so happened to be a Palmer West graduate. Being her chiropractor’s mentee and working alongside other Palmer graduates made her choice easy to attend Palmer West.
Jade keeps up with her studies but makes sure to participate in extracurricular activities “I’m a Campus Guide, and just finished serving a one-year term on the executive team. I’m also a part of the Sports Council, the Hockey Club and have participated in Motion Palpation Club, Soft Tissue Club, and Pediatrics Club.”
Way to go Jade! You’re one quarter closer to being Dr. Viegas.
